ALICE M. (KISTNER) SCHLESSMAN <br />SEPT. 8, 1917-JAN. 5, 2007

Alice Marie (Kistner) Schlessman, 89, of Sandusky, died at home, Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, after an extended illness. Her family was at her side at the time of death.

Born to Captain Elmer and Esther Kistner in 1917, Alice graduated from Monroeville High School in 1936 and then moved to Sandusky. In 1938, Alice married Herbert Schlessman and began a lifelong partnership on the family farm.

Alice was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church Union Corners, where she served on the Church Council, taught Sunday school, was active in the women's circles and her greatest enjoyment of all, singing in the church choir. She was a 50-year member of Queen Esther Chapter of the Eastern Star 15, Huron Yacht Club, the Ladies Auxiliary, Huron Eagles, and was a 15-year volunteer at Firelands Hospital, serving on the Women's Auxiliary. Alice had many loving friends, especially the Friday night dinner club and the pinochle club. Alice loved working on various craft committees at her church and Firelands Hospital. She took great pride in her family and attended all of her grandchildren's academic and sporting events. Alice loved to cook and bake, and her entire family loved holidays at her house.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol (Arthur) Wolfe and Jean Cromley; a son, Jack (Juli) Schlessman; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor (Bennett) Bradley; daughters-in-law, Shirley (Wayne) Schlessman and Barbie (Don) Schlessman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, in 1981; two sons, Wayne in 2001 and Don in 2005; a grandson, Joshua, in 2006; her father, Captain Elmer Kistner; mother, Esther Kistner; two sisters, Virginia Boeckman and Betty White; and a brother, Arthur Ferguson.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Tuesday until services at 11 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church Union Corners, Milan and Scheid Roads, Sandusky. The Rev. William Hlavin will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
