Walter H. "Walt" Ulmer Jr., 70, of Sandusky, passed away early Friday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2007, in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 20, 1936 in Sandusky and had attended St. Mary Central Catholic High School. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Walt worked at the Sandusky Foundry and Machine, as a drill press operator for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1998. He loved boating, fishing and hunting with his beagle hounds. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a life member of AMVETS and a former member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lois C. (Chamberlain) Ulmer; brother, Charles "David" (Doris) Ulmer; step-mother, Vera L. (Cook) Ulmer; half-sister, Connie Porter all of Sandusky; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best friend and fishing buddy, Samuel "The Indian" Jeremy of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie (Kraus) Ulmer; and father, Walter H. "Red" Ulmer Sr.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayers will be recited 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Philip Feltman will officiate. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky.
