Estel D. Ballard, 84, of Sandusky, passed away early Thursday evening, Jan. 4, 2007, in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 18, 1922, in Robinson, Ill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II and was a recipient of two bronze service stars and a campaign medal. He worked as a postal clerk at the Sandusky Post Office for more than 20 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a life member of VFW and American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen M. (Hermes) Ballard; son, David (Ann) Ballard of Boulder, Colo.; daughter, Kay E. Ballard of Sandusky; five grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica Ballard of Boulder and Ashley, Brian and Chelsea Glorioso of Sandusky; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie L. Ballard & Clara J. (Conley) Hamilton; brother, Lyle Ballard; sisters, Velma Dearing, Donna Balconi and Hazel Streng.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday in David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Gary R. Ulrich will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
