Gregory Sean McKown passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 10, 1947, in Shelby, Ohio, to John T. McKown and Agnes Phillips McKown.
He was a graduate of Willard High School and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and later graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences. He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer and member of the 554 MP Company. After the military, he went to work for New Departure (Delphi) in Sandusky until his retirement.
He would have been married 47 years on Sept. 2 to Susan Fulton McKown. They have three children, John McKown of Willard, Greogry McKown of Orient, Ohio, and Mary McKown of Ashley, Ohio. They have six grandchildren, John McKown, Emily McKown, Sean McKown, Ashley McKown, Jacqueline Hapner and Natalie Hapner. He is also survived by two brothers, Gerald (Carolyn) McKown of Plymouth and Dennis McKown of Toledo; three sisters, Jeanine Alt of Akron, Mary Barker of New London and Ellen (Alford) Parkinson of Plymouth; and his mother-in-law, Jean Fulton of New Haven.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Joseph Fulton; four brothers, Raymond, John, Robert and Michael McKown; three sisters, Patricia Rosenburg, Natalie Sherman and Catherine McKown.
He enjoyed his farm animals, outdoor sports, stamp collecting, traveling and had a vast collection of police insignia patches. His greatest joy was being with his grandchildren.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Secor Funeral Home in Willard with a Rosary service to follow. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroeville, with Father William Pifher officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven, Ohio.
