Marilyn J. "Tootsie" Grahl, 74, of Sandusky, died early Monday morning, Jan. 1, 2007, in her home, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Castalia. She retired from the Ohio Veterans Home in 1991, where she had been employed as a nurse for nine years and had served as a private nurse in area residences for many years. She enjoyed gardening, cleaning her home, spending time with her grandchildren and family, fishing and playing cards.
Mrs. Grahl is survived by two daughters, Debra (Gary) Barrett Sr. and Vickie (Roger) Chambers, both of Sandusky; son, Thomas "T.J." (Missy) Grahl Jr. of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Christian and Justin Brady, Amanda Grahl, Gary Barrett Jr., Kelly Ann Barrett and Todd and Roger Thomas Chambers; a great-granddaughter, Maddison Barrett; a sister, Joanne Lovins of South Rockwood, Mich.; a brother, William Scherz of Pittsburgh, Pa.; uncle, Alvin Wobser of Castalia; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Grahl Sr., in 1986; her parents, Edward and Adeline (Wobser) Scherz; two brothers, Robert Scherz and Edward Scherz Jr.; and a sister, Jeri Noon.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, with Pastor Gary Ulrich of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Venice Cemetery.
