John C. Header Sr., 94, of Monroeville, passed away Thursday afternoon July 3, 2014, in the Fisher Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Osceola Mills, Pa., and was a 1938 graduate of Milan High School. John served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a left gunner and radio operator on a B-24 airplane. He survived 35 missions between Sept. of 1944 and April of 1945.
He was employed as a pipe fitter at the Ford Motor Company, Sandusky Plant, for 27 years retiring in 1983. Prior to this he had worked at the former New Departure-Hyatt, Division of General Motors, and also construction in the Toledo area. John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the American Legion and the UAW Local 1216.
He is survived by one daughter, Rosalie McPherson of Clyde; one son, John C. (Mary Jane) Header Jr. of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren, Darren (Meanavy) Header, Darryl (Angela) Header, David Header, Lisa (Greg) Hill, Scott (Jen) Wood and Danny McPherson; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kylee; one son-in-law, Bill Wood of Milan; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ruth (Faye) Header in 1995; one daughter, Lucinda “Cindy” Wood in 2005; one son-in-law, Dan McPherson in 1988; his parents, Edward and Veronica (Crajcman) Glogowski; three sisters, Sophie Kuhn, Phyllis Krechman and Laurel House; and one brother, Leo Header.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., Monroeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St., Monroeville. Rev. Bill Pifher will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
