James S. Johnson, 59, residing in Sandusky, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 2, 2014, in Firelands Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
James was born Nov. 18, 1954 in Stambaugh, Mich., to James A. and Joyce (Benzer) Johnson. James was a foreman for the Sandusky Dock Company for 33 years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed vintage muscle cars, motorcycles, fishing, cooking, boating, shooting and camping. He also loved spending time at Camp Lake in the upper peninsula of Michigan. He will be remembered as an avid Green Bay Packers fan, who himself excelled in high school football and always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a wonderful uncle to a niece and nephews and beloved friend to many, especially his dock crew. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
James is survived by his wife, Lois (Key) Johnson, whom he married April 6, 1974. He is also survived by his son, James T. Johnson, of Sandusky; daughters, Kelly (Rusty) Schoewe, of Monroeville, and Kasey Johnson, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Alex and Gage Schoewe; sisters, Barbara (Tim) Gegg, of St. Louis, Mo., Nancy (Bill) Amsden, of Farmington, Mo., and Kathy (Glen) Miatech,of Iron River, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his mother, Joyce (Benzer) Johnson, James was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sarah Johnson.
A celebration of life will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in James' memory may be made to the Johnson family in care of Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory.
