Rex Allen Gaubatz, 65, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, passed away with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.
He was born Feb. 22, 1949, in Shelby, son of the late Conrad and Lenora (Leach) Gaubatz. He graduated from South Central High School in 1968. Rex started working for Sheller Globe in 1976 and retired with 34 years of service from CVGin 2010.
He was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Norwalk. Rex loved his family, friends, home and pets. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles and trains from an early age.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Carol (Wolfe) Gaubatz; sister, Judy Hatch, of Texas; brother, Fred Gaubatz, of Bellville; sisters-in-law, Karen (Hugo) Ferlito, of Carmel, Calif., and Kay (Dave) Miller, of Willard; brother-in-law, Chuck (Sherry) Wolfe, of Willard; nieces and nephews, Mark, Paul and Darla, Russell, David, Julie, Jill, Ryan (Danielle) Miller, Holly Miller, Craig (Tracey) Wolfe, Lauren Wolfe, Ashlee, Mark, Jennifer Ferlito; and many great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Margaret Wolfe; and sisters-in-law, Judy, Norma and Jeanie Gaubatz.
Rex’s family will greet friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich, where a service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7. The Rev. Anthony Recker will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
