William “Bill” Sadler Frankel III, 74, of Terre Haute, Ind., and formerly of Sandusky, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, in Terre Haute.
He was born June 10, 1940, in Sandusky, to William S. Frankel Jr. and Elizabeth (Tracy) Frankel. Bill started his career in retail working in his grandfather’s and father’s store, The William S. Frankel Co., in Sandusky. He retired as an operations manager from Sears Roebuck & Co. in Terre Haute after 37 years.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Connie (Hanavan) Frankel; son, William “Will” Sadler Frankel IV and his wife Jean of Terre Haute; grandson, William “Liam” Sadler Frankel V of Terre Haute; sisters, Elizabeth “Buffy” Walls and her husband Grant of Huron, and Anne McDermond and her husband Lee of Sandusky; brothers, John Frankel and his wife Nanette of Sandusky, and Charlie Frankel and his wife Lisa of Ball Ground, Ga.; mother-in-law, Joan Hanavan Reed and her husband Wayne of Exeter, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Bill attended Culver Military Academy and Ohio University. He was a past director of the Honey Creek Fire Department, past member of Plum Brook County Club in Sandusky and a past member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 86 in Terre Haute.
Bill was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served as a certifications and accreditations clerk in West Germany for the United States Army, 3rd Armored Division “Spearhead”.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday July 6, at DeBaun Funeral Home, Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive Terre Haute, with cremation to follow.
