Dorothy A. Bergeman, 95, of Port Clinton, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, in the Commons of Providence, Sandusky.
She was born Feb. 7, 1919, in McCutchinsville, Ohio, to Thurman and Marrietta (Swerlein) Sours. On Dec. 20, 1941, in Fremont, she married Denny C. Bergeman, and he preceded her in death Dec. 23, 2005.
Dorothy, along with her husband, owned and operated Bergeman’s Men’s Store, Port Clinton, for 40 years before retiring in 1993.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, past president of the Altar Rosary Society, past president of the Toledo Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, member of the Lady Elks, Port Clinton, and life member of the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary, where she volunteered for over 20 years.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Dennis (Jeannine) Bergeman and James (Vickie) Bergeman both of Port Clinton; three grandchildren, Kara (Brad) McMonigal, Ryan (Bethany) Bergeman, and Tim (Margaret) Bergeman; four great-grandchildren, Carson, Landon, Taylor, and Mallory; sisters, Helen Harris of Greensprings, and Patricia (Meryl) Hummel of Florida; brother, Donald (Phyllis) Sours of Green Springs; and brothers-in-law, Leon Boucher of Hilliard, Ohio, and Vincent Hetrick of Fremont.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Robert, Edward, Richard, James, and Denny Sours; and sisters, Garnetta Hetrick, Virginia Boucher, and Matilda Hetrick.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, with prayers offered at 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral mass. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, with Father John Missler. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Port Clinton.
Memorial contributions in memory of Dorothy may be given to Immaculate Conception Church or School, Stein Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
