James E. "Jimmy" Vessey, 93, of Sandusky, passed away late Friday evening, May 9, 2014, in Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
He was born April 2, 1921, in Sandusky, to Charles and Murcus (Pledger) Vessey. He was a 1941 graduate of Sandusky High School. Mr. Vessey was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during W.W. II in the Philippines and Korea . He worked as a dispatcher for 40 years for Nickel Platte Railroad and later for Norfolk Southern, before retiring in 1982.
Mr. Vessey was a member of the Columbus Avenue United Methodist Church and the Masonic Science Lodge 50 FAM for 60 years; life-member of the VFW Post 2529 and a member of the Transportation Communication Union.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Myra L. (Woolf) Vessel; a daughter, Sharon Lou Vessey, of Norfolk, Va.; two sons, James Alan (Charlotte) Vessey, of Sandusky, and Charles Henry (Jerry) Vessey, of Owasso, Okla.; six grandchildren, Shawn, Eric, Sean, Jason, Heather and Brian; two great-grandsons, Hudson and Jack, and one on the way.
Mr. Vessey was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Monday, May 12, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, with Masonic services at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the funeral home. The Rev. Paul S. Atkinson will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
