Bennie Ray Mathis, 65, of Clyde, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, in The Bellevue Hospital.
He was born Jan. 12, 1949, in Middlesboro, Ky., the son of Isaac Calvin and Elsie Bernice (Cox) Mathis.
Bennie was employed by the Ford Motor Company in Sandusky until his retirement in 2002. He loved to play golf, cards, cornhole, and horseshoes. He especially loved being around his family and playing the various activities with them.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Hupp) Brown Mathis, whom he married May 20, 1994 in Clyde; children, Bobbi Jo (Mike) Adkins of Fremont, Jason Mathis of Vickery, Melissa (Sam) Fisher of Bellevue, and Kyle Stang of Clyde; grandchildren, Amanda Jo and Adrieana Adkins of Fremont, Kelsey (Mathis) Cannelli of Gibsonburg, Mason Mathis of Clyde, and Benny Fisher of Bellevue; siblings, Mary (Sue) Lindsey of Huron, Fred (Pat) Mathis of Fremont, Judy Daugherty of Fremont, and Debbie (Bob) Milleson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vonda Lou (Perkins) Mathis; son, Wesley James Mathis; sister, Juanita Leers; and brother, James (Joe) Mathis.
Friends will be received 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Foos Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Highway, Clyde. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Block Cemetery.
