John “Johnny” H. Martens, age 60, of Put-in-Bay, went home to the Lord on Easter morning, April 20, 2014, on the island that he loved.
Born March 27, 1954, in Cleveland, to Howard and Elaine (Nass) Martens, he had been a lifelong area resident.
John was very active in the island, working for many local businesses and most recently for his family at E’s Golf Cart Rental. Johnny loved music (especially The Beatles), all Cleveland sports teams, Put-in-Bay softball, fishing from Keewaydin Beach, playing poker, and his 1965 Honda Dream motorcycle.
John leaves behind his loving family - his son, Johnny Martens; parents, Howard and Elaine (Nass) Martens; sister, Donna Martens; companion, Sarah Gosche; aunt and uncle, Charles and Carole Craigs; cousins, Linda (Ken) Brown, Laura (Buzz) Kirchner, Chuck Craigs; nieces and nephews, Eric Kirchner, Liesl (Max) Glover, Ryan (Nikki) Kirchner, Josh (Anna) Brown, Sarah Craigs, Emily Craigs; and his son's mother, Ellen Martens.
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon, Thursday, April 24, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 623 Catawba Ave., Put-in-Bay. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m., at the church. Burial will be at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Put-in-Bay Road, Put-in-Bay Township.
