Marie L. Rockwell, 93, residing in Milan, passed away Saturday morning, March 29, 2014, in Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Kings Mills, Ohio, to Eugene Zimmer and Ellen (Foulk) Zimmer. Marie received her nursing degree from Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She then began working for Dr. John R. Mellen in Milan, retiring after more than 30 years of service as a Registered Nurse.
She was a member of Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, and the Milan Mothers Club. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, Campfire Girl Leader and Sunday school teacher. Marie enjoyed playing Scrabble, collecting paperweights, gardening, bird watching, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Roberta (Don) Gfell, Fred (Connie) Rockwell, both of Milan, and Bruce (Marlene) Rockwell of Huron; six grandchildren, Greg, Ann, Rob, Ryan, Deana and Jim; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Rockwell, in 1978; her parents; and three sisters, Emily Espy, Jean Hobbs and Ernie Rogers.
There will be no visitation. Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday April 5, at Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, 10 E. Church St., Milan. Dr. Dale W. Thomas, pastor, will officiate. Burial with family will follow in Milan Cemetery. A luncheon will be served in the church basement. Groff Funeral Home, Milan Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
