Carol Ann Even, 73, of Catawba Island, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2014.
She was born Aug. 15, 1940, in Crofton, Neb., the daughter of Anton and Hilda (Jilg) Lenzen. She grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, where she graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School, and then met the love of her life, James P. Even. They were married on Sept. 23, 1961, and moved to Medina, Ohio, in 1966. After raising her family, she went to work at the former Central Reserve Life Insurance Company in Strongsville, Ohio. In 1993, Jim and Carol moved to Catawba Island, where she worked for many years as a hostess in the breakfast room at the Sleep Inn Hotel and Country Inn and Suites in Port Clinton.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead where she was active in the Altar-Rosary Society, member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Brunswick, Ohio, and Port Clinton, member of the Isabella Guild at Holy Martyrs Church in Medina, and volunteered as a teacher’s aide at the Hickory Ridge Elementary School in Brunswick. Most importantly, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her family. She was a good friend to many and was always helping others. She loved to fish on Lake Erie, often catching more perch or walleye than anyone else on the family boat.
Survivors include her husband of 52 wonderful years, Jim; children, Jim Jr. (Susette) Even of Solon, Ohio, Tony (Jackie) Even of Strongsville, Cathy (Mike) Langford of Cincinnati, Diane (Dean) Dolata of Aurora, Ohio, and Mari Jo (Scott) Westfall of Stow, Ohio; affectionate grandmother of Bryan, Ben, Megan, Kerri, Alex, Jessie, Jacob, Joe, Adam, Jared, Julia, Ryan, Tom, and Anthony; loving sister to Bonnie Brown of Dallas, Sandy (Jack) Berger of Sioux City, Iowa, and Dan (Sherry) Lenzen of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Hilda (Maury Visnow) Lenzen; and her brother, David Lenzen.
