Rose Kathryn Calienni, age 88, died March 14, 2014, in Huron, where she lived since 1969.
She was born March 31, 1925, in Bellevue, the youngest daughter of the late Battista and Rosa (Locuoco) Calienni.
Rose was preceded in death by her five sisters, Mary Carmela Warner, Anna Maria Calienni, Josephine Vartorella, Joan Rita Hubacher and Estelle Marie Warton; and her niece, Ann Clinedinst.
Known affectionately as “Aunt Babe,” she is survived by her many nieces and nephews, Cassandra Ponto, Elizabeth (Becky) Bergevin, John Warton, Michaella Novello, Patrick Warton, Richard Vartorella, Judith Hubacher Bergeski, John M. Hubacher, Joslyn Hubacher Gadzinski and Janet Hubacher.
She was a graduate of Bellevue High School, class of 1943, Bowling Green State University and Chapman College. An accomplished artist and educator, Rose taught Art, Clothing and Design classes at Vermilion High School, Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., and Huron High School before retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Education Association, and locally, the Las Amigas Club.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St. Huron. A Memorial Service and Funeral Mass will be follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Following the service, a luncheon wake will be held at the church hall. A private burial will take place on April 11 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.
