Robert E. Fischer

Robert E. Fischer, 88, of Sandusky, passed away early Saturday morning, March 22, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.

Born on Jan. 14, 1926, in Sandusky, he was the son of Michael Peter and Elsie Amelia (Kromer) Fischer. Bob was a 1944 graduate of Sandusky High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He had worked as a supervisor at the Sandusky Ford Motor Company for 30 years and retired January of 1986.

Bob enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting and especially loved spending time restoring his Lyman and spending time with his family and friends fishing on the lake.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he had volunteered for many years and had worked countless hours on different restoration projects at the church and in the rectory. He also was a life member of the AMVETS Post 17 and a life member of the American Legion Post 83.

Bob is survived by his family, Stanley Fischer of Sandusky, Stephen (Lori) Fischer of Chehalis, Wash., David (Lorraine) Fischer of Milwaukie, Ore., Donald A. Fischer of Sandusky, and Roberta "Robin" (Tom) Brady of Huron; five grandchildren, Allison Fischer, Hillary (Kurtis) Moijtie, Micah (Hannah) Fischer, Sean and Alexis Brady; and his first great-grandson coming in May.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elaine I. (Wobser) Fischer on Oct. 17, 2008; a granddaughter, Julie Marie Fischer; and two sisters, Marilyn A. Higgins and Norma Gallagher.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. Saturday, March 29, until prayers at 9:40 a.m., at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Entombment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line Sandusky, OH 44870, or to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
