Edith Mary (Tommas) Hire, 96, of Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, March 9, 2014, in Med Central Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 10, 1917, in Bloomingville, Ohio, daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel (Winslow) Tommas. She retired from Ford Motor Company, following 23 years of service.
She was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ and A.F. of M. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally (Ted) Dennison, of Mansfield, Ohio; two grandchildren, Brent Hire and Rachel (William R. Jr.) Lallman; and one great-granddaughter, Annette Baker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hire, whom she married on Aug. 17, 1940; son, Richard, infant daughter, Barbara; parents; and brother, Allen Tommas.
Friends will be receive from 9 a.m. Saturday, March 15, until the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Jerald Fenske will officiate. Burial will be at Castalia Cemetery.
