Walter Charles Swiger, 75, of Norwalk, died Thursday morning, March 6, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born April 15, 1938, in Shirley, W.Va., son of the late Robert and Opal Pearl (Baker) Swiger. He grew up in Wellsville, Ohio, and was a graduate of Wellsville High School class of 1956.
Walter was a 1959 graduate of the Salvation Army College for Officer Training School in New York and was a former officer of the Canton, Norwalk and Sandusky Salvation Army. He was member and a deacon of the Norwalk Christian Missionary Alliance Church and reveled in theology and Bible research. Walt retired from Tennco after 33 years.
He enjoyed being with family, fishing, hunting, cooking, Bible study, photography, and going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.
Walt was a gentle man that touched anyone he met with a smile and a kind word. Honest and humble, he was faithful to God, family and friends.
Walter is survived by his wife of 45 years, Trudy G. (Moyer) Swiger whom he married Sept. 28, 1968. He is also survived by his children, Beth Hope Bartlett (Rob Sommers) of Norwalk, Jeneen Joyel (Sid) Weimer, of Norwalk, and Sarah Faith (Paul) Markus, of Sandusky; his grandchildren, Thomas Mann, Adam Bartlett, Storm Weimer, Xavier Markus; his father’s wife, Mrs. Robert (Bernice) Swiger, of West Union, W.Va.; and her children, Kristie (Steve) Chipps, Amber Swiger, and Alan Swiger.
Walter was preceded in death by his uncle, Paul Baker, who lead him to Christ.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 10, at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11. The Rev. Doug Lang, pastor of the New London Alliance Church, will officiate.
