Bettie J. Meyers, 90, of Bellevue died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at home.
She was born March 19, 1919, in Lorain, daughter of Herman A. and Janie Short Bruell. She married Carlton W. “Mike” Meyers, Feb. 7, 1948, in Bellevue. He preceded her in death Jan. 3, 1995.
A 1937 graduate of Bellevue High School, she served in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years during World War II. She was employed as a clerk for Nickel Plate and N&W railroads and retired in 1981. She and her husband were owners of Meyers Recreation bowling lanes from 1957-65.
Bettie was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Katherine Lehman Circle, Althea Chapter Eastern Star, Friends of Bellevue Library, American Legion Post 46, and a lifetime member of Mad River and NKP Railroad Museum.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Holly, and their children, Callie and Charlie of Pittsburgh; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Kathy, and their children, Jeremy and Jenni, and Jessica of Sandusky; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Mel Kirk, and their children, Michael and Stephanie, Matthew and Malinda of Wooster; and nephew, Scott Billings.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Zehner; and her nephew, John Billings.
Friends will be received 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Mel Kirk will officiate. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mad River Railroad Museum or a charity of choice.
