Nancy Ann (Sass) Shepherd, 81, formerly of Sandusky, passed away late Tuesday morning, Feb. 25, 2014, in St. Mary of the Woods, Avon, Ohio, after a lengthy illness.
Nancy was born Dec. 17, 1932, in Sandusky, daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (Moos) Sass. Nancy was a 1950 graduate from St. Mary Central Catholic High School and graduated in 1953 from Providence School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse at Providence Hospital for 38 years. She also was a public health nurse with Erie County for 13 years.
Nancy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed needle crafts, boating and spending time with her family.
Nancy is survived by her sons, David (Shauna), of Bay Village, Ohio, and Joseph (Julene) Shepherd, of Lima, Ohio; daughters, Ann (Charles) Banks, of Cleveland, Joan (Michael) Lippus, of Parma, Ohio, and Martha (Roger) Brown, of Geneva, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Shepherd; her parents; and stepfather, Melvin Krawetzki (Keppy).
The family would like to thank the nursing home staff at St. Mary of the Woods in Avon for their loving care and Holy Family Hospice, of Parma.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where a prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Michael Roemmele will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
