Robert L. Baum, 65, of Norwalk, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 25, 2014, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer.
He was born April 8, 1948, in Norwalk, to LeRoy F. and Lois (Schwanger) Baum, and was a lifelong area resident.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk, and a 1966 graduate of Western Reserve High School. Robert was a lifelong farmer, a longtime employee of Wicks Lumber Company. He enjoyed traveling, especially train and riverboat travel, and vegetable gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jackie (Tretter) Baum; his daughters and sons-in -aw, Jessica S. and Brian Mehus of Indiana, Pa., and Wendy L. and Jake Mathiason of Golden Valley, Minn.; grandson, Theo J. Mathiason; sister and brother-in-law, Lynda and Don Davis of Loveland, Colo.; and special cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Baum; and sister, Judy Dunn.
Friends may call 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 257 Benedict Ave., Norwalk. Rev. David Connor will officiate.
