Thomas A. Roth

Thomas A. Roth, 80, of Sandusky, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, in his home.

Tom was born Feb. 23, 1934, in Sandusky, to Theodore and Lorena (Meyers) Roth.

Tom graduated from St. Mary High School in 1952, and John Carroll University in Cleveland in 1956. There he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, thereby becoming the first in his family to earn a college diploma. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having earned the rank of 1st lieutenant before being honorably discharged.

After the service, Tom returned to Sandusky to serve as president of Roth Printing where he worked alongside his father and brothers for many years. In 1978, he became the owner/operator of E.E.I Graphics. Tom retired from the printing business in 2006.

Tom was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church. At various times he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The AMVETS, the IAB club, and the CHSAF. Tom was a passionate supporter of Sandusky Central Catholic athletics. For many years he could be found in his favorite "coaching" spot in the top row at Strobel Field or in The Den.

He is survived by his wife, Barb (Benkey) of 57 years; two daughters, Lori (Marty Carlysle) and Amy (Kevin) Durbin of Huron; six sons, Kevin (Robin) of Birmingham, Ala., Ty (Julie), J (LaVonna) of Riverview, Fla., Aaron (Bev) of McComb, Ohio, Troy (Kari), and Yon (Joy) Roth; 20 grandchildren, Damon (Elizabeth), Brooke, Taylor, Travis, Theo, Spencer, Mason, Loren, Sadie, Tanner, Madison, Meg, Gabby, Maddi, Ryan, Wil, Gus, Max, Justin, and Rae; brother, Ronald Roth; sister-in-law, Eileen (Roth) May; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Lyle, Ted and Dale; sisters, Beatrice (Roth) Powell and Mary Ellen (Roth) Link.

At his request, cremation has taken place. His family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Joseph Steinbauer officiating.
