Lela Ruth (Hill) Nuber, 84, of Sandusky passed away Friday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born May 8, 1925, in Athens, Texas, to James Q. and Maggie Lee (Glover) Hill. She graduated from Athens High School in 1942 and was a member of the National Honor Society. Ruth married her husband of 61 years, Henry E. Nuber, Oct. 6, 1945, in Tyler, Texas, and moved to his home in Bay Bridge. She worked as a bookkeeper at Steuk's and later as a secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church in Venice.
Ruth was active in her church as a member of the choir and Naomi circle. She also was a founding member of, and served 25 years on, the Lutheran Memorial Home auxiliary.
Ruth is survived by her son, Kenneth (Phyllis) Nuber of Sandusky; grandchildren, Kathreen (Matt) McGinnis and James Nuber, both of Columbus; nieces, Sylvia (Frank) Leuellen and Linda (Dale) Yarbrough; and nephew, James Vincent.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry E. Nuber; parents, James and Maggie (Glover) Hill; and sister, Martha Nell Vincent.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Bardshar Road, Sandusky, with the Rev. Philip Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Venice Cemetery.
