Christine (Peale) Wood, 80, of Sandusky went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, after a lengthy battle with leukemia.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1929, in Xenia, Ohio, to Isaac N. and Martha L. (Rockhold) Peale. She graduated and received her B.A. degree from Wilmington College. She married Lawson Wood, Sept. 26, 1970, and moved to Sandusky.

Christine was employed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for 26 years, the city of Sandusky, and finally New Departure Hyatt, retiring in 1992. She was a longtime member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 83, serving as president from 1998-2000. She was active in the Eastern Stars, being Past Worthy Matron Lakeview Chapter 65, Golden Circle Bezaleel Assembly 19, Past Commandress Heroes of Jericho Floyd C. Churchwell Court 8, and Daughters of Isis Alalimm Court 205. She was an active member of Faith Memorial Church, serving in the choir for more than 30 years.

Christine is survived by daughters, Angela L. Miller, Karen (Kevin) Jones and Kimberly J. (Clarence Jr.) Brown; son, Robert G. Ellis; stepdaughters, Carole Butler and Betty E. Mason; grandchildren, N. Kristen Jones, Chales K. Jones, Sierra Jones, Shawn Ellis, Alaysia Brown, Heath Mason, Jabar Butler, Tiffani Butler; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Vester DuPree; special nieces, Phyllis Powell and Verlene Wood; special nephew, Kenneth Wood; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Woods, in 2007; parents; sisters, N. Virginia DuPree, and Martha Ellen Peale in infancy.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, with American Legion Post 83 Auxiliary conducting memorial services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Faith Memorial Church, 1320 E. Strub Road, Sandusky. Paster Kenneth Hiser will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
