Jesse W. Shaffer, 84, of Rocky River, Ohio, passed away Jan. 19, 2014, in St. John West Shore Hospital.
He was born March 12, 1929, in McDermott, Ohio. He was a long-time resident of the Vermilion – Amherst area. He was a 30-year employee of Ford Motor - Lorain Assembly Plant, retiring in 1991.
He was devoted to his late wife, his children and grandchildren. He was an excellent carpenter, building his first house as a wedding gift to his wife. He was very well versed in the trades, enjoyed golf, and was an excellent bowler.
He is survived by his children, Larry W. (partner, Joe Smith), Gary L. (Cynthia), Tim (Vicki) and Cheryl Szczepanski; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alyne (Gardner) in February 2013; his parents, George and Cora (Hall); and his brothers, Gaylord, Gaythor and Harold.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Kipton Community Church. The Rev. Lee Stull and the Rev. Charles Livermore will officiate. The family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Jesse in the church hall immediately following the services.
