Ralph E. Young, 93, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Ralph was born July 18, 1920, in Detroit, to Ralph A. and Ethel (Link) Young.
Ralph was a graduate of Sandusky High School, where he was recently inducted in to the Track Hall of Fame. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. He was employed as a chief draftsman at Union Chain before retiring after 40 years of service.
Ralph was a member Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a 60 year member of the American Legion Post 83, where he was a past commander and Chef De Gare, and a member of the AMVETS. He loved all Ohio sports teams, especially the Buckeyes, enjoyed dancing, big band music, working in the yard and spending time with his family and friends.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane (Gordon) Young; children, Cheri (George Smith) Heim, Alan (Suzanne) Young of Castalia, Lynda Bird, and Cindy Young; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Young; and sister, Virginia Wilkens.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, until funeral services at 4 p.m., at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, with Father Michael Roemmele presiding. Burial will be held at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
