Edward H. "Sonny" Glassner, 79, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday evening, Jan. 17, 2014, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Edward was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Sandusky, son of the late Edward L. and Louise (Schied) Glassner. Edward graduated from Perkins High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who proudly served his country during a tour in Korea. He was a construction worker and semi-truck driver for many years, retiring in 1992 from Speer Brothers, Inc. in Sandusky.
Edward was a member of American Legion Post 83 and and a lifetime member of the MLB Cleveland Indians Insider’s Club.. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan. He played in dart-ball leagues throughout Erie County and never missed one his grandchildren's sporting events.
Edward is survived by his wife of 41 years, Alma (Martinez) Glassner; four daughters, Angel (Shannon) Sharp and Brenda (John) Hosko, of Sandusky, and Tammy (Tim) Woodruff and Kris (Doug) Schooner, of Rising Sun, Ohio; two sons, Mark Martinez, of Sandusky, and John Slaughter, of Castalia; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Edward was preceded in death by two sons, John C. and Edward J. Glassner; his parents; and two sisters, Margaret McCullough and Blanche Glassner, in infancy.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, until funeral services at 11 a.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
