Egon F. Weller, 87, residing in Norwalk, passed away Tuesday, Jan.14, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Egon was born July 6, 1926, in Braunsbach, Germany, to Frederick "Fritz" and Anna (Rohrle) Weller.
He came to America at the age of 3, in 1929, on the S.S. Bremen through Ellis Island, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who proudly served his country from 1944 to 1946.
He was employed 13 years at Union Chain, 10 years at Lower Lake Docks, and retired from Tenneco Industries in 1992 after 33 years of service as a stationary engineer, boiler technician, and certified welder. Egon was a member of American Legion Post 83 and AMVETS Post 17. His passion was restoring old cars and coin collecting. He was an avid football fan. He loved spending time with his friends and family.
Egon is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann "Peggy" (Kline) Sanders-Weller, whom he married Jan. 7, 2000; daughter, Ruth Ann (Jim) Markowitz of Huntington, NY; sons, Gordon (Anne) Weller of Evansville, Ind., and Jeffrey (Sue) Weller of Tulsa, Okla.; his blended family, Karyn (Ken) Wilhelm of Monroeville, and Joyce (Steve) Hovatter of Norwalk; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Egon was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Pfleiderer) Weller in 1980; and a brother, Alfred "Whitey" Weller in 1998.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Meadow Green Memorial Park, 2602 Bogart Road, Huron. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
