Jane Helen Somers, 82, of Lakeside-Marblehead, and formerly of Catawba Island, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, in Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.
She was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Cleveland, daughter of the late Wilmer and Helen (Kerwin) Schultz. On Aug. 30, 1952, she married Duane Alyn Somers and he preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1996.
Jane was a kindergarten teacher in Cleveland until her first child was born. She was also a Port Clinton nursery school teacher at Trinity United Methodist Church in Port Clinton.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Marblehead; member of the Guidelights CCL of Catawba Island and had been a volunteer for WSOS Headstart.
Survivors include her daughters, the Rev. Janine (Ted) Dress, of Marblehead, and Elizabeth Wooden, of Farmington Hills, Mich.; sons, Donald (Elena) Somers, of Youngstown, Ohio, and Alan (Heather) Somers, of Maple Grove, Minn.; grandchildren, Donald Somers, Allyson Somers, Carolyn Wooden, Thomas Wooden, Kerry Somers and Clare Somers; niece, Maryjane Kapela and nephew, James Percival.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Arlene Percival; and son in-law, Christopher Wooden.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18. Pastor Christina L. Young, will officiate. Burial will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Marblehead; Otterbein North Shore Retirement Center,nLakeside; or to Stein Hospice Service, Sandusky.
