Jean M (Smith) Kromer, 86, of 422 Neil St., Sandusky, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, after a brief illness.
She was born May 22, 1927, in Hillsdale, Mich. Mrs. Kromer was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church. In recent years, she begun attending Sandusky Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the 1945 Class of Sandusky High School.
She was employed at Providence Hospital retiring in the late 1970s. Between 1981-86, she owned and operated True Light Nursing Home. She had also been employed by Vacationland Nursing Home and Hospitality Nursing Home. She and her family were noted farmers in this area. She spent her later years providing private home health care.
Mrs. Kromer is survived by her three daughers, Victoria M. (Michael) Robyck, Abbi M. Marsh and Patricia M. Thompson; two sons, Robert R. (Cheryl) Kromer and Otto L. (Bonnie) Kromer; one foster son, Dan (Martha) Dyer; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril Kromer, in 1985; her parents, Merton L. and Mabel V. Scharp Smith; one grandson, Brian Kromer; one sister, Margaret Reed; and two brothers, Dean Smith and Oma Richard Smith.
Friends and family may call 4-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, and from 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, until funeral services at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Roemmele will preside over the services. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
