David A. "Dave" Ebner, 66, of Sandusky, passed away late Sunday morning, Dec. 15, 2013, surrounded by his family at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.

Born March 18, 1947, in Sandusky, he was the son of Edward Charles "Bussy" Ebner and Bernice Mary "Babe" (Fairfield) Kiser. He was a 1965 graduate of Sandusky High School where he was active in football and wrestling. David was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War. For nearly 40 years he had been a self-employed real estate agent in the local area.

David enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and his many friends, especially when he held his traditional St. Patrick's Day party, which correlated with his birthday, and the many family cookouts. He loved collecting clowns and watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns football games.

A few years ago, he finally built his "dream home" on Kelleys Island, where he enjoyed working around the house on different building and landscaping projects. His other loves were country music, his corvette, and fast cars, but he was especially proud of his cactus which he had grown over the years.

David was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, a life member of the AMVETS Post 17, American Legion Post 83, the VFW Post 9908 on Kelleys Island, and the Real Estate Association.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Martha L. "Marty" (Polta) Ebner; a brother, Edward Ebner; two sisters, Sue Maczuga and Annie (Dennis) Wilson-Sartor; brother-in-law, Jack Maczuga; best friend, Doug Denslow; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special cousin, Kevin Ebner; step father, Sam Kiser; and several aunts and uncles.

At his request, private family visitation will be held. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Fr. Michael Roemmele officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 83 Color Guard. Following the services cremation will take place. Entombment will be held later in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to Veteran Services of Erie County, 247 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
