Carol F. Gowitzka, age 79, of Castalia, died Monday morning, Dec. 9, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 25, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a sales clerk at Elder Beerman and Cohn's Store. She also owned Carol's Homemade Treats and was known as the "Cookie Lady". She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Groton Township, the Philco Plus Ten Club, and for over 30 years, was a member of the American Business Women's Association.
Carol is survived by her husband Donald, to whom she was married for 59 years; two daughters, Mary Gowitzka of Sandusky, and Judith (Jeff) St. Clair of New York; one son, Donald (Barb) Gowitzka of Sandusky; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Dorothy (Zigler) Sommer; and two brothers, Melvin and Harold Sommer.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, until services at 11 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church, 9416 Ohio 99, Monroeville. Pastor Jim Michaels will officiate and entombment will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park.
