Eugene "Gene" Horner, 81, of Strecker Road, Bellevue, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, in Bellevue Care Center.
He was born April 2, 1932, in Sharonville, Ohio, to Robert B. and Loretta (Hansman) Horner.
Gene graduated from Sharonville High School in 1951, and The Ohio State University in 1959. He worked for U.S. Steel and Agri-Chemicals. He was an IPM scout for The Ohio State University. He and his wife operated their pick-your-own farm, Horner's Corners for 30 years. Gene was an agriculture leader in the area. He also served as the Groton Township Clerk for eight years. Gene was stationed on the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, while serving our country as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
On Aug. 3, 1968, he married Gloria Cleland, and she survives in Bellevue. Also surviving are their sons, Mark (Stacy) Horner of Medina, Ohio, Kyle (Neilann) Horner of Albany, Ore., and Brent (Daphne) Horner of Hong Kong; four grandchildren, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Allison, and Grace; and his siblings, Mary Lemker of Ludlow, Ky., Janet Owens of West Chester, Ohio, Marge Combs of Montgomery, Ohio, and Richard Horner of Sharonville, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Benard Horner.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Groton Township Volunteer Fire Department, or Stein Hospice of Sandusky.
