Mary L. Gallagher, 85, residing in Sandusky, entered into eternal life Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mary was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Sandusky, to Chester and Helen (Mehrle) Weichel.
She graduated from Margaretta High School in 1945. She attended Ursuline College.
Mary, a loving wife and mother, is survived by her husband, Thomas C. Gallagher, whom she married on June 24, 1950; 12 children, Thomas (Martha) Gallagher of Toledo, Susan Gallagher of Sandusky, James (Michele) Gallagher of Sandusky, Mark Gallagher of Columbus, Ohio, Matthew Gallagher of Fredericksburg, Va., Brian Gallagher of Elkhart, Ind., Patrick Gallagher of Smyrna, Ga., Mary (Bill) Faulkner of Sandusky, Kathleen (Greg) Loya of Cleveland, Ohio, Christine (James) Loya of Cleveland, Joseph Gallagher of Columbus, and Patricia (Michael) Kelly of Sandusky; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Weichel; her sister, Margaret Butler; her son, Luke; and her daughter, Mary Scholastica.
Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, with the Parastas Service at 7:30 p.m., at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, until the Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m., at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 506 E. Main St., Marblehead, with Fr. Bob Kelly presiding. Burial will be at a later date in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Waterville, N.Y.
