Elmer “Dynamite” Yates, 62, of Huron, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, in Akron General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 16, 1947, in Honaker, Ky., son of the late Martin P. and Laura K. (Kidd) Yates and came to this area in 1969 from Honaker. He was a faithful viewer of the Rev. Benny Hinn Ministry on the television and was also a member of Eagles Aerie 2875 of Huron. Elmer retired after 27 years of service with Sheller-Globe Co. of Norwalk.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, tinkering with mechanic work, and his pets. He was a friend to anyone in need, be it family, friend or stranger.
He is survived by his life partner, Vivian L. Knight of Huron; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Angela Yates of Toledo; his daughter, Melissa Yates of Lithonia, Ga.; his stepson and daughter-in-law, Michael and Connie Gregory of Norwalk; his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Laura and Dwayne Jenkins of Norwalk; and 14 grandchildren. Elmer is also survived by his siblings, Wes (Namoia) Yates of Honaker, Ky., Katherine Creasy of Mulberry Grove, Ill., Loretta (Edsell) Boyd of Wakeman, Velma (Emmitt) Lawson of Harold, Ky., Palmer Yates of Honaker, Ky., and Pauletta (Larry) Linkey of Mulberry Grove.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Darrell Yates and Necoma Yates and by his sisters, Darlene and Jenina Yates.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Wayne Mushett will officiate. Interment will be in Collins Cemetery.
