Tresa Ilene (Hale) Collins, 62, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday Nov. 11, 2013, in Mercy Regional Medical Center of Lorain following a lengthy illness.
She was born July 27, 1951, in Waynesburg, Pa. She was the first African American cheerleader in Mapletown High School where she graduated in 1971, and was also part of the Varsity Club. She lived in Lorain for more than 48 years.
Tresa was a member of Church On The North Coast where she served in the media ministry and was a cell group leader. She worked for the Cleveland Illuminating Company for more than 30 years. She enjoyed shopping, interior decorating, and being involved in community outreach programs.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 36 years, Glenn Collins Sr.; son, Glenn Collins Jr. of Louisville, Ky.; daughter, Tamara Collins, of Lorain; stepdaughter, Landia Collins, of Columbus; three grandchildren, Arius, Landon and Imari; one brother, Ralph (Stephanie) Hale, of Morgantown, W.Va.; sisters, Sharon (Dorvall) Davis, nee Hale, of Edenborn, Pa., Carol Sutton and Joyce Littleton of Louisville, and Genie Smith, of Columbus; many nieces and nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Tresa was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Thelma (Duffy) Hale; brothers, John Hale and Fred Hale; and sister, Kathy (Hale) Dickerson.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, until a service at noon at Church On The Coast, 4125 Leavitt Road, Lorain. Pastor Louis Kayatin will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
Professional services were entrusted to Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
