David G. Zoliniak, 64, Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, June 29, 2011, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 4, 1946, in Sandusky, the son of Edward W. and Edith A. (Heidl) Zoliniak. He was a graduate of Perkins High School, and went on to attend The Ohio State University for a year before transferring to Wilmington College. He retired as superintendent of the Erie County Wastewater Division, and continued working for the Erie County Auditor’s office for a number of years.
In addition to spending time with his granddaughter, Sydney, Dave enjoyed classic cars, traveling and casinos. He was a member of the Board of Directors at Vacationland Federal Credit Union, and was a member of Sons of the American Legion.
His wife of 40 years, Penny (Bechstein); daughters, Katrina (Scott) Scroggy and Brenda (Jim) Hurst, both of Sandusky; granddaughter Sydney; mother Edith; and brothers Ken (Pat) Zoliniak of Sandusky and Edward (Judy) Zoliniak of Santa Cruz, Calif. survive him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward.
At the request of the deceased, cremation will take place and there will be no services. Groff Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Because Dave was a cancer survivor, he was a contributor to Cancer Services of Erie County, and the family would like those who wish to make a memorial contribution to do so in Dave’s memory to Cancer Services or to one’s favorite charity.
