James L Murphy, 85, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.
He was born March 7, 1928, in Marion, Ohio, son of the late Emery and Dora (Carpenter) Murphy. James was employed by Ford Motor Company for 30 years, and the State Liquor Store for 25 years, retiring from both in 1995. He was a proud veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a lifetime member of the AMVETS, American Legion, Eagles, and VFW. He enjoyed bowling and playing pool and golf. Most of all James loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra A. Geiger, of Norwalk; two sons, James E. (Ann S.) and David E. (Linda S.) Murphy, of Sandusky; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
James was preceded in death in 2007 by his loving wife, Barbara A. (Rotsinger) Murphy, whom he married Dec. 24, 1950; his parents; and one great-grandchild, Te-Aijah Murphy.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, until funeral services at 11 at 11 a.m. Pastor B.R. Hatfield, of Venice Road Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
