KETTERING, Ohio
Catherine "Mary" (Parker) Carrigg, 89, slipped away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at home in Kettering Ohio.
She was the daughter of aviation pioneer, sheriff and commandant of Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home, Major John W. Parker, and Katherine Parker.
Mary is survived by her husband, John; 10 children; 40 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Ann Stang of Melbourne, Fla.; brother, John Parker of Little Rock, Ark.; sister-in-law, Ruth Parker of Sandusky; brother-in-law, Bruce McAbery of Cape Coral, Fla.; cousins, Judy Lippus, Janet Linkenbach, Jacque (Phil) Gatkowski, Annette Roeckers and Dave (Nina) Parker; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, "baby Jimmy" and William Parker; sister, Etta Jean McAbery; sister-in-law, Janet Parker; and brother-in-law, Russell Stang.
Mary grew up in Sandusky, started undergraduate work at Mary Manse College and finished up with a degree in education from Bowling Green State University. After briefly teaching, she worked in the War Department in Washington, D.C., during World War II.
While a student at Georgetown University she met her husband, John, of Buffalo, N.Y., an Army veteran of the European Theater. They married in 1947 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and moved to Steubenville, Ohio, where they raised their family. Mary and John moved to Kettering in 1999.
There will be a private family viewing and a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 149 Franklin St., Dayton, Ohio.
