Estella A. Japsen, 104, of Sandusky, passed away after a brief illness early Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27, 2013, in Gaymont Nursing Home, Norwalk, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 1, 1909, in Venice, Ohio, the daughter of John and Lou Letta (Dunham) Young. She loved to play cards and bingo, but she will mostly be remembered for the many years that she organized the Young Family gatherings and other activities.
Estella worked at New Departure-Hyatt (Division of General Motors) for 20 years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she had been active in a variety of different groups within the church, she also was a member of the Senior Women of the YMCA.
Estella is survived by a daughter, Joyce A. (Alan) Fitzpatrick of Norwalk; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman H. Japsen on April 15, 1998; a daughter, Norma Jean Frisch on Aug. 20, 2010; a sister, Thelma A. Niedzinski; and a brother in infancy.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home. Rev. Kathleen Shuck officiating. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery, Castalia.
