Thomas F. "Tom" Macaluso Jr., 75, of Sandusky, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 19, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 2, 1937, in Sandusky, the son of Thomas Francis and Jennie Mary (Pomerson) Macaluso Sr. Tom was a 1955 graduate of Sandusky High School and a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
He had worked at Prepared Foods for nearly 30 years until its closing, and had been a U.F.C.W. Chief Union Steward while at the plant. Tom later went on to work at the Lear Corp. until retiring in 2002, there also, he had served as a union representative. Tom was a lifetime booster and a fan of the Sandusky High School Football program and had been known as an avid sports fan.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and had been a RICA sponsor, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Senior Men Club.
Tom is survived by his brother, David Macaluso of Sandusky; sister, Dorothea Chicotel of Sandusky; nephew, Larry; three nieces, Theresa (Keith), Patty, and Jennifer (Isiah); a great-nephew, Toby; five great-nieces, Brianna, Shelby, Destiny, Faith and Shania; and longtime friend, Pat.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gaton Chicotel.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Fr. Marty Nassr officiating. Following the service cremation will take place. Interment will be held later in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
