Gladys E. Stierhoff, 81, of Norwalk, died Saturday evening, Oct. 19, 2013, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Norwalk, daughter of the late Albert P. and Mabel (Myers) Nickoli and was a lifelong area resident. Gladys retired from the cafeteria of Norwalk Public Schools in 1997.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and was a member, and former officer, of the Firelands Post 2743 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Gladys and her husband, Harvey, were active volunteers for the Norwalk Senior Center where they were Outstanding Senior Citizens in 2006.
Affectionately known as “H. B.”, she helped her husband with his business, Harvey’s Appliance Service, and was also a stay at home mom. Gladys was a former Volunteer for the American Red Cross, was a former Girl Scout Leader, enjoyed playing Euchre and Bunco, camping, gambling, and playing Bingo. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events and traveling.
Gladys is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harvey L. Stierhoff, of Norwalk. They were married April 21, 1950. She is also survived by her children, Judy Gerber (the late David Gerber, 2013), of Monroeville, Margie and Howard Simon, of Norwalk, and Ronald and April Stierhoff, of The Colony, Texas. Gladys is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian (Melissa) Gerber, of Ada, Ohio, Angela (Brett) Gies, of Findlay, Ohio, Trenton Gerber, of Marion, Ohio, Shondra Moralas, of The Colony, Sabine Stierhoff, of The Colony, and Monique and Paul Dawadu, of Houston; her sisters, Ruth Perkins, of Norwalk, and Mary (Harold) Fries, of Willard; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Nickoli; her sister, Evelyn Nickoli; and by her grandson, Steven Gerber, in 2004.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24. Interment will be in Union Corners Cemetery, Sandusky.
