LeRoy B. Sprowl, 89, of Norwalk, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at his home.

He was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Milan Township, son of the late LeRoy Roy and Mildred (Smith) Sprowl and lived in the Norwalk area most of his life. He was a 1939 graduate of Milan High School, was a great pitcher and had a great knuckleball. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving in W.W. II in the Signal Corps at the Battle of the Bulge. LeRoy was a member of Victory Christian Fellowship in Fremont, a 55 year life member of Firelands Post 2743 VFW, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26, Norwalk. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Sandusky. LeRoy was a former employee of General Motors in Sandusky, Nickel Plate Railroad, and also worked construction out of the Union Labor Hall in Sandusky.

LeRoy played in a baseball league in the Milan and Norwalk area for many years. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's high school sporting events, watching the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns, fishing, hunting and gardening, and talking with his friends and family.

LeRoy is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Pat Sprowl of Norwalk, Kenny and Deb Sprowl of Dundee, Ohio, and Joe and Helen Sprowl of Norwalk; his daughters and sons-in-law, Annette Houghtlen and Marilyn and Don Wilson of Norwalk, Jacalyn and Sam Hunter of Castalia and Karla Sprowl of Norwalk; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Florence A. Sprowl in 2006; his son, James Sprowl, killed in Vietnam in 1968; his daughter, Karen Goostree in 2004; his brother John Sprowl; his sisters, Margaret Barber, Ruth Carter and Mary Barber; and his grandson, Ronald Houghtlen Jr. in 2009.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, until services at 1 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. The Rev. Scott L. Robles will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery.
