Meta (Loeffert) Gross, 85, residing in Sandusky, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 4, 2013, in Parkvue Health Care Center after a lengthy illness.
Meta was born May 29, 1928, in Gladbeck, Germany, daughter of the late Andreas and Martha (Steinke) Loeffert. After moving to Sandusky with her husband, Andreas, in 1952, Meta was employed at Philco Corporation, and later at the downtown JC Penney store. From 1966 until their retirement, Meta and Andreas owned and operated the Star Dust Motel in Sandusky.
After moving to Sandusky, she was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Meta is survived by two daughters, Heidi (Steve) Kalakoc, of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Dagmar (Randy) Canonge, of Cary, N.C.; two sons, Gerhard (Debbie) Gross, of Sandusky, and Mark (Pamela) Gross of Oshkosh, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, Michelle, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Eric, Danielle, Derek, Andrea, Elizabeth, Annabelle, Lily and Greta; and four great-grandchildren, Thane, Phoebe, Julian and Abigail. She is also survived by three brothers and many nieces and nephews in Germany.
Meta was preceded in death by her husband, Andreas Gross; her parents; and several siblings.
Friends will be received 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, and from 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, until funeral services at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 503 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. John Mawhirter will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
