Donald J. Christiansen, 71, of Sandusky, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born May 31, 1942, in Sandusky, son of the late Corrine (Kessler) and Paul J. Christiansen Sr. A 1960 graduate of St. Mary, Donald served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 35 years.
Donald was a member of Faith Memorial Church in Sandusky, where he loved serving in various ministries. He was also an active community volunteer with other church and charitable organizations. He bowled in the Ford Bowling League, loved golf, yard work and gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Donald is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara J. (Butler) Christiansen, whom he married July 15, 1978; children, Michael Christiansen, of Sandusky, Julie Nichols, of Maple Heights, Ohio, Mark (Linda) Christiansen, of Hermitage, Tenn., Lisa Haughn, of Bradenton, Fla., and Jill Christiansen, of Sandusky; sister, Jean R. Meese, of Sandusky; grandchildren, Kristen, Melissa, Angela, Timmy, Crystal, Joshua, Kayla, Tyler, Cassie, Taylor and T.J.; and great-grandchildren, Jack, Jesse, Braydin, and two more on the way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Jr. and Dean; and grandchildren, Ashley and Teddy.
The family asks that everyone please honor Donald by wearing their dress-casual clothing 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at Faith Memorial Church, 1320 E. Strub Road, Sandusky, and again from 9 a.m. Saturday, until funeral services at 10 a.m. Pastor Ken Hiser will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, where the American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard will provide military honors. A luncheon will take place at the church following the committal services at the cemetery.
