Willie B. “Dr. BB” McCarty

Deacon Willie B. “Dr. BB” McCarty, 86, Sandusky, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, in his residence, under the care of his sons, Willie L. “Bo”, Jimmy, and Wayne “Buck” McCarty.

He was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Waynesboro, Miss., and lived in Sandusky since 1963.

Dr. BB was a factory worker for many years. He loved fishing, gardening, playing his harmonica, and spending time with the neighborhood children.

He was a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board, mass choir, and male chorus. Dr. BB was also a member of the Masonic order of St. John Lodge 192, Sandusky.

He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Kimel (Marion) Hudson of Sweetwater, Ala., Carla McCarty of Cincinnati, Audrey (Ricky) Samuel of Jacksonville, N.C., Gwendolyn (Williams) Moore of Hamilton, Ga., Giovahna Darden of Sandusky, and Patricia Sims of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Jimmy (Sharon) McCarty, Willie L. (Carla) McCarty, and Wayne (Birdia) McCarty, all of Sandusky, Larry McCarty of Mobile, Ala., Neil (Myra) McCarty of Durham, N.C., Donald, Norbert, Allen, Timothy, and Zachary Sims, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Nettie (Claude) Mercair of Chicago, Ozella Grant of Sandusky, and Margerie Warshom of Waynesboro; brothers, Issac (Nola) McCarty Jr. of Steward, Fla., and Samuel (Classie) McCarty of Sandusky; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Issac and Nettie Mae (Gaines) McCarty; sons, Lawrence Edward McCarty, and Samuel Allen McCarty; sisters, Hazel Sumlin, Lucille Matthews, Penni Mae McCarty, Emma Teddar, Pinkie McGrew, Erlene Morgan, and Albenie Richey; and brothers, David McCarty and Wiley McCarty.

Friends may call 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1920 Eddy Henry Way, Sandusky. Rev. Curtis L. Johnson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
