U.S. Veteran Betty Jean Powers, 69, of Sandusky, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, in University of Toledo Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born June 2, 1944, in Wauseon, Ohio, daughter of Frederick E. and Esther (Marksch) Barnes. She married James R. Powers on June 30, 1962, and he survives. Betty was a graduate of Sandusky School of Nursing and was a LPN employed by Good Samaritan Hospital, Sandusky.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wauseon, and Zion Lutheran Church, Huron. Betty was also a member of the Wauseon American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, James R. Powers of Huron; son, John F. (Kathleen) Powers of North Olmsted, Ohio; daughter, Sherry Moser of Berlin Heights; grandchildren, Kaley, Kimberly, Dena, Lauren, Amanda; brothers, Carl Barnes, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ron May, of Lake George, Ind.; sister, Joyce Summers, of Wauseon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marian Skinner; and brother, Roger Barnes.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 398 S. Shoop Ave., Wauseon. A fellowship luncheon will follow the memorial service at the church.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Zion Lutheran Church, 930 Main St., Huron, where a fellowship luncheon will follow. Interment will be at a later date in Wauseon Union Cemetery.
