Phyllis I. Burras, 84, of Norwalk, died Monday evening, Dec. 6, 2010, in Cleveland Metro Hospital from injuries she and her sisters, Joan and Norma, suffered in an automobile accident.
She was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Norwalk, daughter of the late Edwin and Irene (Rossman) Schlachter and was a lifelong Norwalk area resident. Phyllis was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. She was a longtime volunteer at Fisher Titus Medical Center and a member of VFW Auxiliary 2743. She was manager of Montgomery Ward Catalog Store in Norwalk, had worked at the former Kroger Grocery Store, and at the B.F. Goodrich Store in Norwalk.
She enjoyed sewing, bridge club, and Car Coddlers.
She is survived by her son Allen R. (Mary Ann) Steele of Norwalk; by her grandson, Douglas (Becky) Steele of Norwalk; two great-grandchildren; her brother, Dick and Liz Schlachter of St. Petersburg, Fla.; her sisters, Verna Riley of Norwalk and Patricia (David) Curtis of Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester L. Steele in 1986, and by her second husband, Leslie W. Burras in 1994; her granddaughter, Jenifer Steele in 1999; her brother, William Schlachter in World War II; and sisters, Norma Hartman, Joan Barker, Janet Orlosky, Trudy Riley and Florence Betschman.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Fred Wiechers and Pastor Dan Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
