Norma R. Hartman, 89, of Norwalk, died Friday evening, Dec. 3, 2010, in Cleveland Metro Hospital from injuries she suffered in an automobile accident.
She was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Norwalk, daughter of the late Edwin B. and Irene (Rossman) Schlacter and was a lifelong Norwalk-area resident. Norma was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir. She was a former employee of General Telephone Company and was a babysitter for many local families.
Norma was a member of the VFW Post 2743 Auxiliary, Eagles Aerie 711 Auxiliary and Ken Bur Bell Post 41 American Legion Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for the Huron County Bloodmobile for more than 40 years. Norma enjoyed knitting, reading, playing cards, traveling and baking.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Heyman of Norwalk; her stepson, Mike Hartman of Toledo; four grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Phyllis Burras of Norwalk, Verna M. Riley of Norwalk and Patricia (David) Curtis of Mesa, Ariz.; and by her brother Richard (Liz) Schlachter of Florida. Norma is also survived by a longtime family friend, Cynthia Comyns of Powell, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan C. Hartman in 1996; by her sisters, Joan Barker, Florence Betschman, Gertrude Riley and Janet Orlosky; and by her brother, William Schlacter in W.W.II. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. .Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk.
